MEET SUNDAY STATE

Sunday is a state of mind

Welcome! We’re Tammy and Hope, the mother-daughter team behind Sunday State. Spanning homewares, fashion, and lifestyle, our shop is a passion project rooted in slow living.

Sunday State was born from our shared love of design, craftsmanship, and flat whites sipped on slow Sunday mornings. We initially fell for a calmer and more relaxed way of life during our ten years in Hawaii and the Southern Hemisphere. While we have now landed back in our beloved hometown of Calgary, many things from the Southern hemisphere stayed with us. We learned the importance of community and preserving our environment. We learned to truly appreciate the beauty in being still. Not rushing. Savoring the simple things. We learned the essence of Sunday State.

With a carefully curated collection of timeless and minimalistic goods, we hope to indulge our local community and customers in that wonderful Sunday feeling, every day. We believe that life is sweeter when surrounded by meaningful objects — it’s why we choose craftsmanship over mass production. Always committed to sustainability, our products are ethically sourced from both near and far.

Hope’s mission is to find those truly unique pieces that can be loved and treasured for years to come. Thankful for meaningful connections, Tammy is passionate about the artisans and the stories behind their handicrafts. Together, we make sure that our makers and the unique items they produce are valued equally.

We invite you to cherish the art of simplicity and calm — or as we like to call it — that Sunday state.

Meet Tammy

Describe your perfect day?

All day every day on the big island. Anyone who really knows me can confirm this.

What is one thing what can instantly make any day better?

Anything my 3-year-old grandson says to me. He is hilarious and makes any day so much better.

What would be the title of your memoir?

Although I have done some crazy things, I am not crazy.

Why did you open Sunday State?

I wanted to be a part of supporting the small business model in a city and community that I am passionate about.

Meet Hope

How do you take your coffee?

I love flat whites and drip coffee with a splash of cream.

What is your favourite way to spend a day off?

Spending time outside with people I love and good coffee.

Why did you choose Sunday State as the name of the business?

To me Sunday’s always mean a pause. They bring a peace and reminder to slow down and take time to reset for the week ahead. There are so many people struggling right now with anxiety and with the pace of life around them. I wanted to create a space where people could come and feel the ease of a Sunday, every day.
